Volumetric virtual images are impossible...or are they?

Our most recent work makes it possible to simulate virtual images (windows into another world) using OTD technology.  Now OTD's can be used to create 3D environments of arbitrary perceived size.  

The background video concept art shows two types of OTD images: 1) a volumetric butterfly and 2) a set of OTD layers that act as a moving background that gives the user the impression that they are in a much larger space.
